Pergamon altar

For hundreds of years, a magnificent architectural example of Hellenistic art was hidden from man. The monumental Pergamon altar, decorated with mythological stories about the Olympian gods, was destroyed in early Byzantine times. Since then, the fragments of the building lay underground and only at the end of the 19th century were they again bit by bit collected in Berlin. Destroyed to the ground, the building gradually acquired its original appearance, although it was not an absolute copy of it. After a while, it needed a second restoration. Everything that was collected threatened to collapse and spoil the original fragments. A new long-term reconstruction began.
Our online reconstruction complements the ongoing process and helps preserve the antique monument. It will allow you to do what is impossible in real life. The visitor will be able to climb the stairs of the altar, see its rare fragile fragments and see in detail the scale with which the people of antiquity built buildings. Our reconstruction was complicated by the lack of knowledge about the altar - some of its elements were lost forever. But in the course of the work, more and more details were discovered. Gradually, the altar began to take on a new life. Today we can take stock of our successful work and will soon present a complete interactive version of the Pergamon Altar.
We would like to thank the specialists and cultural experts of the Louvre and the New York Metropolitan Museum for their participation in this project. Thanks to them, we have formed a complete picture of the once-lost masterpiece and reproduced this cultural monument in detail, so that everyone in the world has the opportunity to get to know it.
